Improving donor organ quality: the role of ex vivo lung perfusion
Aims : ex vivo lung perfusion is a new technique to improve donor lung quality. Controlled trials demonstrate that the results of lung transplantation with ex vivo lung perfusion are as good as those obtained with the classic cold preservation technique, whereas the prevalence of primary graft dysfunction is decreased. This technique is also expected to be further developed via application of more advanced curative and preventive protocols to improve immediate and long-term graft acceptance.
Diseases: airway diseases, interstitial lung diseases.
