Aims : to improve the competence and performance of clinicians by promoting their active learning of empathic communication and motivational interviewing and by helping them to develop strategies for incorporating these techniques into patient care; to focus on how to effectively counsel patients in order to improve their overall lifestyle, including their diet, exercise and alcohol/tobacco use; to increase knowledge about empathic listening and motivational interviewing strategies and resources; to increase skills in empathic listening and motivational interviewing strategies; to increase the application of empathic listening and motivational strategies and resources.
