Aims : To better understand the immediate adjustments and acclimatisation mechanisms to high altitude. These adjustments are known to involve the respiratory and cardiovascular systems. However, recent studies show that high altitude also affects the cerebral vascular system and cognition. The relevance of hypoxia-induced changes in respiratory diseases will be discussed.
