Aims : To describe the differences between thymectomy and thymomectomy, explain why patients with thymoma-myasthaenia gravis may require complete thymic removal, describe the advantages of the new video-assisted approach, discuss new technologies of sternal replacement after the removal of giant tumours and present the sequence of the diagnostic and therapeutic steps that are taken when there is a medical urgency involving patients with mediastinitis.
