Enhancing sonography practice beyond identification of pleural fluid
Aims : To provide a solid theoretical framework for development of skills in ultrasonography; to encourage evidence-based practice where possible; to highlight the utility of thoracic ultrasonography for purposes other than identification of pleural fluid, including assessment of other thoracic structures; to describe methods of safely performing thoracic interventions (including image-guided pleural biopsies) after suitable training; and to provide a solid background for an educational skills workshop in thoracic ultrasonography.
